President´s
Letter
Dear Parents,
It is my pleasure to serve as president of the Calvary
Christian School Board of Trustees for the 2009-2010 school
year. The Board of Trustees is legally responsible for
the school, accountable to Calvary Church and works
to reinforce Calvary Christian School’s mission
statement. Specific responsibilities of the Board of
Trustees include:
- Establishing school policy
- Insuring for the financial stability of the school
- Reviewing and maintaining the school by-laws
- Actively supporting and promoting the school and the Head of School
- Hiring, encouraging and evaluating the Head of School
The Board of Trustee meetings involve three key groups
which meet regularly during the school year and annually
for a strategic planning session in late summer.
- Voting Officers: The 12 voting members of the Board
of Trustees are active Calvary Church members including
representatives from each of the Calvary Church boards
(2 from the Board of Elders, 1 from the Board of Deacons,
and 1 from Board of Deaconess), parents of children
currently enrolled in Calvary Christian School, and
other "at-large" members. The Executive
Committee of the School Board is comprised of the
Chair, Vice Chair, and Treasurer.
- Regularly Invited Guests to Board of Trustee Meetings:
The following people are invited to every school board
meeting for their input: the Head of School, Assistant
Head of School, Middle School Director/Matriculation
Coordinator, Director of Admissions and Community
Relations, President of the Parents Association, a church representative and members of the Parent Input
Committee. None of the invited guests have voting
rights, but their input is very important to the board.
- The Parent Input Committee to the Board of Trustees:
The committee includes 2 parents of current students
who have demonstrated a deep commitment to the school
and support of the School's academic and spiritual
mission, but are not members of Calvary Church. These
members are invited to attend every Board of Trustee
meeting to provide valued input, but they do not have
voting rights.
As a Board of Trustees we want to ensure that Calvary
Christian School meets the needs of its students and
families through its dedication to academic excellence
and the development of Christian values. To that end,
it is important that we maintain communication with
the parent body at Calvary Christian School. We value
parent input and encourage communication. We encourage
parents to use the Biblical model presented in Matthew
18 as a guide for communication at CCS. This is executed
as follows:
- Parents should discuss all issues with the student’s
teacher
- If the matter is not resolved, an Administrator
will join the parent in conference with the teacher
- If the matter is still unresolved, the parent should
take the matter to the Board of Trustees by contacting
me at 310-713-2700.
I look forward to serving during this school year and
to meeting as many of you as possible. Thank you for
your involvement and dedication to our wonderful school.
Sincerely,
Robert Peddicord
Board Chair
